Head of Emergency Unit

The opportunity

This is a senior leadership role responsible for providing clinical and operational leadership within the emergency centre. The successful candidate will drive safe, high-quality patient care, mentor clinical teams, utilise data to inform decision-making, and lead quality improvement initiatives within the emergency unit.

Responsibilities:

• Provide overall clinical leadership within the emergency centre

• Lead, manage and mentor emergency centre practitioners

• Integrate data, audits and reports to develop solutions for business requirements

• Participate in organisational strategies and key projects

• Drive quality improvement and quality assurance initiatives to ensure safe patient care

• Identify, assess and mitigate clinical and operational risks within the emergency centre

Requirements

• MB BCh or MB ChB with Dip PEC or MSc or MPhil in Emergency Medicine

• MMed in Emergency Medicine or MMed Family Medicine (FCEM or FCFP) will be advantageous

• Minimum of three years' experience in a private sector emergency centre

• At least one year supervisory or managerial experience

• Knowledge of relevant South African healthcare legislation and ethical guidelines

• Strong understanding of private healthcare industry operations

• Knowledge of South African Triage Scale and emergency clinical protocols

• Advanced Life Support certifications (Cardiac, Paediatric and Trauma)

• Disaster and major incident management experience

• Competency in data management and report writing

• Computer literacy in Microsoft Suite
