Unit Manager High Care

As the leading medical recruitment agency in South Africa, our client has an exciting opportunity for a Unit Manager High Care to be based in Welkom, Free State.

The opportunity

You will take end-to-end responsibility for a surgical nursing unit, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care while leading an engaged team, optimising resources, and delivering a consistently positive client experience.

Key responsibilities

• Uphold clinical quality standards in line with hospital policies and procedures

• Identify, manage, and mitigate clinical risks within the unit

• Lead, coach, roster, and performance-manage nursing staff

• Plan and control operational and capital budgets to ensure efficient resource use

• Drive a patient-centred culture and manage feedback to enhance experience

• Collaborate effectively with other departments to achieve shared outcomes

• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Requirement

• Professional Nurse qualification

• Postgraduate Diploma in Health Services Management or an accredited management qualification, or at least five years of leadership experience in a hospital setting

• If managing a specialist unit, a relevant Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing is advantageous

• Minimum five years’ hospital experience as a Professional Nurse and at least two years in a leadership role

• Sound knowledge of clinical risk, infection prevention and control, and nursing practice standards

• Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong report-writing and documentation skills

• Working knowledge of auditing and accreditation, quality improvement, HR processes, and productivity management

• Understanding of healthcare legislation, financial management principles, and patient complaint resolution
