The opportunity
The Unit Manager High Care will be responsible for overseeing the clinical and operational management of the high care unit. This role requires a strong leader who can ensure high standards of patient care, manage resources effectively and drive quality improvement initiatives within a structured clinical environment.
Responsibilities:
Ensure delivery of safe, cost-effective and high-quality patient care in line with clinical governance standards
Manage unit resources, including staffing, acuity levels and skill mix
Oversee departmental financial performance, including budgeting, billing and stock management
Identify and implement quality improvement initiatives and monitor clinical outcomes
Manage clinical risks, investigate incidents and ensure compliance with policies and legislation
Ensure equipment maintenance, safety standards and asset control
Lead and manage nursing staff, including performance management, mentoring and development
Promote a positive working environment and support staff wellbeing
Facilitate effective communication with patients, families and healthcare professionals
Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships within the hospital environment
Ensure adherence to infection prevention and control standards
Support transformation initiatives and organisational goals
Requirements:
Relevant nursing qualification Diploma in General Nursing or BCur Degree or equivalent NQF 7
Registered Nurse with valid SANC registration
Post basic qualification in Critical Care
Qualification in Health Services Management a MUST
Minimum of 3 years' experience post speciality qualification
Proven leadership and people management experience
Strong financial and operational management skills
Knowledge of clinical governance, risk management and quality improvement processes
