The opportunity

The Registered Nurse Theatre Cardiothoracic will be responsible for delivering specialised nursing care within the theatre environment, with a focus on cardiothoracic procedures. This role requires a highly skilled and experienced professional who can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team while ensuring optimal patient outcomes and adherence to clinical standards.

Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised nursing care within the theatre environment

• Act as a clinical resource to support staff in delivering high-quality patient care

• Participate in multidisciplinary team activities to develop and implement patient care plans

• Assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures as a scrub nurse

• Ensure effective communication with patients, families and healthcare professionals

• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation

• Respond to emergency situations and provide appropriate interventions

• Participate in ward rounds and contribute to patient care planning

• Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, policies and procedures

• Maintain a safe, clean and compliant environment for patients and staff

• Support education, training and mentoring of nursing staff and students

• Contribute to quality improvement and risk management initiatives

• Assist with staff allocation based on patient acuity and clinical needs

Requirements:

• Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council

• Minimum of 5 years' private hospital experience in theatre as a cardiothoracic scrub nurse

• Strong knowledge of specialised nursing theory and practice

• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing conditions

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

• Willingness to participate in on-call duties

• Sound understanding of modern nursing care principles and practices
