The opportunityÂ
This is an advanced clinical role suited to an experienced Theatre-trained Professional Nurse who is passionate about leadership, education, and delivering specialised perioperative care. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will act as a clinical expert within the theatre environment, supporting best practice, mentoring staff, and ensuring optimal surgical patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities
Deliver and coordinate specialised perioperative nursing care within the theatre environment
Act as a clinical leader and role model in theatre, supporting and supervising nursing staff
Provide mentorship, coaching, and clinical teaching to theatre staff and learners
Ensure adherence to theatre protocols, infection prevention, and patient safety standards
Support surgeons and multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient and effective surgical procedures
Participate in research, clinical audits, and continuous improvement initiatives within theatre
Allocate and manage theatre staff effectively based on surgical lists and patient acuity
Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations
Support the implementation of new technologies and systems within the theatre environment
Requirements
Registered as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council
Post-basic qualification in Theatre/Operating Room Nursing essential
Proven experience within a theatre environment
Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing practices and infection control standards
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work flexible hours, including shifts, weekends, and on-call
