The opportunity
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Hospital General Manager to lead the strategic, financial and operational management of a multidisciplinary healthcare facility.
Reporting directly to the Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the overall performance of the organisation, ensuring financial sustainability, operational excellence, regulatory compliance and the delivery of exceptional patient care.
This position would suit a commercially astute healthcare leader with extensive hospital management experience, strong financial acumen and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
Key responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and oversee the overall management and performance of the healthcare facility.
Develop and implement strategic objectives aligned with organisational goals.
Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficient resource utilisation and service delivery.
Develop and manage operational and capital budgets, driving profitability, revenue growth and cost optimisation.
Monitor operational performance, financial targets and key performance indicators.
Ensure compliance with South African healthcare legislation, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
Oversee clinical governance, patient safety, quality assurance and risk management.
Provide operational oversight across multidisciplinary services, including pharmacy and radiology.
Lead, mentor and develop the management team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Ensure compliance with labour legislation and organisational policies.
Build and maintain strong relationships with medical professionals, specialists, funders, suppliers and regulatory bodies.
Identify opportunities for business development, operational improvements and sustainable growth.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Management, Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or a related field.
Postgraduate qualification such as an MBA, MBL or MHA would be advantageous.
Minimum 8–10 years' experience in healthcare management.
At least 5 years' experience in a senior management or executive leadership position.
Proven experience managing multidisciplinary healthcare teams and operational budgets.
Strong understanding of South African healthcare legislation and regulatory requirements.
Sound knowledge of hospital operations, clinical governance and patient safety standards.
Understanding of pharmacy operations, relevant legislation and radiology services.
Strong financial management, budgeting and commercial decision-making skills.
Demonstrated ability to drive operational efficiency, profitability and business growth.
Excellent leadership, strategic planning, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities with experience in organisational change management.
