As the leading medical recruitment agency in South Africa, our client has an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Emergency Physician to be based in Somerset West, Cape Town.
The client
Our client is a well established private emergency medicine group operating within a modern private hospital setting. They are known for delivering high quality, evidence based emergency care, supported by strong clinical governance frameworks and a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach. The environment offers exposure to both clinical leadership and operational management within a dynamic emergency centre.
The opportunity
This is a dual clinical and managerial role suited to a specialist who enjoys both hands-on patient care and leadership responsibilities. You will work within a structured emergency unit, overseeing junior doctors while contributing to clinical governance, patient outcomes, and operational performance. The role includes rostered shifts as well as involvement in management and on-call responsibilities.
Key responsibilities
Deliver high-quality, evidence-based emergency medical care
Oversee and support junior doctors in clinical practice
Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation and record auditing
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including in-hospital specialists and external providers
Participate in clinical governance, audits, and morbidity & mortality meetings
Contribute to patient flow, safe dispositions, and operational efficiency within the emergency centre
Maintain compliance with clinical guidelines and healthcare regulations
Support performance improvement initiatives and patient satisfaction outcomes

Requirements
Registration with the HPCSA as a Specialist Emergency Medicine Practitioner (FCEM/MMed Emergency Medicine)Â OR Specialist Family Physician (MMed Family Medicine)
Proven experience working within a busy Emergency Centre environment
Strong clinical decision-making and acute care management skills
Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and support multidisciplinary teams
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with patients, hospital management, and pre-hospital providers
Experience in or exposure to clinical governance, protocols, and quality improvement initiatives within an Emergency Centre
Willingness to participate in a blended role incorporating both clinical and management responsibilities
Ability to work rostered shifts, including weekends (as required)
