Hospital Manager

As the leading medical recruitment agency in South Africa, our client has an exciting opportunity for a Hospital General Manager based in Johannesburg, South Africa.  The Hospital General Manager is to drive the execution of all strategic and operational objectives, clinical governance, quality management and coordination of all hospital related activities. 


Ideally the Hospital Manager should be a sound administrator used to building and developing a strong team of professionals to run the hospital. The right person must be a doer, good with detail and have sound financial skills. The Hospital Manager is accountable for the leadership of the business, to ensure the sustainable performance of the Hospital, fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment. The incumbent is further responsible for the development and implementation of the hospital strategy in line with strategic themes. The incumbent will also be responsible for scanning and interpreting macro and micro environments to implement and drive strategies that will capitalize on opportunities and mitigate potential risks to the business. The incumbent will be responsible for building and enhancing the relationships with existing medical doctors and liaise with a complex network of stakeholders to ensure business growth and business unit sustainability.


Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate strong leadership by embodying and promoting the hospital's values.

  • Provide clear strategic direction and focus on key performance areas for business growth and improvement.

  • Identify new business opportunities and areas for change through thorough market and environmental scanning, including industry trends, competition, and regulatory conditions.

  • Develop a comprehensive stakeholder strategy aimed at growth, particularly targeting new doctors and specialists.

  • Actively seek and develop new business opportunities by engaging potential medical professionals and assessing the viability of these opportunities.

  • Analyze business relationships meticulously to measure risks and perform due diligence.

  • Identify marketing opportunities, understand consumer needs, and develop initiatives to build brand loyalty and showcase the hospital's value proposition.

  • Stay informed about industry events, trends, and projects, ensuring the hospital remains competitive and aligned with sector developments.

  • Assist in developing a detailed business plan that aligns with the hospital's financial goals and market share growth, ensuring operational efficiency.

  • Secure financial resources for business development, manage budgets effectively, and achieve financial objectives.

  • Implement operational strategies to deliver the best patient experience while ensuring cost-effectiveness and employee engagement.

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, enhancing patient care and safety standards.

  • Build and maintain essential relationships with health authorities, stakeholders, and boards to support health service delivery.

  • Drive transformation goals, provide training and development, and attract and retain top talent to achieve organizational objectives.

  • Manage team performance through timely feedback and recognition, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and rewarding achievements appropriately.


Requirements:

  • Relevant University business and/ or healthcare degree essential (post graduate qualification/s advantageous) 

  • Minimum 8 years' experience in a Senior Managerial position, preferably in a medical/ medical aid and /or service-related environment.

  • Proven leadership and general business management experience (including financial management and business planning processes) within a healthcare environment or services industry.

  • Preferably knowledge of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role-players including understanding of relevant legislation

  • Basic understanding of or the ability to learn specialization fields, terminology, and medical equipment 


Location: Northcliff, Johannesburg

Salary is market related
